Scooby Gang Redesigns

I was being a TA for Greg Houston (http://greghoustonillustration.com) who is a badass, at MICA's Pre-College program, and one of the assignments was to redesign a classic team of four into a pro-wrestling team. I got really excited and decided to try the assignment out, but I got so wrapped up in redesigning the characters that the whole pro-wrestling bit went out the window.

Fred and Daph are the worst. I mean, just look at them. The worst.

So I also re-watched the live-action Scooby Doo movie (the first one, which is awesome btw) and Fred says the EXACT WORDS of this picture above to Velma. I secretly am totally rooting for them to get together because Daphne is kind of useless anyway. All in all I really REALLY love drawing Fred. A lot. Too much, maybe.

Star Trek! (and other less important things)

So me and my bro are really into Star Trek. And we talk about it all the time. Seriously, we make references to Romulans any chance we get. Stupid Romulans. I think this might be my father's influence. I have heard rumblings that growing up in Kansas is very boring, and to stay entertained, my dad would marathon it in his basement with the A/C turned all the way up and pretend he was in space. Just saying.

I'm feeling better about comics than I have all year. Most comics now, I feel, are kind of TERRIBLE. The same old same old over and over, and even the good ones fall to cliche and poor writing (or poor development, maybe). Especially being at MICA, where everyone is influenced by all the same artists, authors, ideas, and peers, it's nearly impossible to break away from the norm. Being away from that all summer has renewed my faith in comic-kind. Don't let me down, world!

PS] I love Beyonce.

Summer Stuff Part 2

HAHAHA HOO BOY. Brian Ralph had us do a comic in another artist's style, and who else would I pick but my super faves, Hellboy and Scott Pilgrim (there's a movie coming out, check it)! Yeah, so this is a page right out of Hellboy. If you pretend that I'm Brian Lee O'Malley, it's totally cool, right? Also, I did a character study before-hand so I could make sure I knew which end of the brush to use (it's the end with the bristles) which I thought turned out pretty ok, so here it is for your viewing pleasure!

Summer Stuff Part 1

Here's my final comic for Brian Ralph's class this summer! You can't see the rest of my comics until I can sneak into the studio and get at the big scanner!

Anyway, I only had time to color the first page (and shoddily at that, oh ho ho), but angry tiny nerds are great. (SECRET: THE COOL KIDS ARE BASED OFF OF MIKA NAKANO AND BRIAN RALPH TEE HEE.)
